He locked his fingers around her wrist and hauled her toward the back of the building. “We have to get out of here, now.”
She dug in her heels. A quick peek behind her showed that the blond wasn’t following. Good for him. “Do you like hurting me?”
Julian immediately froze. Then he whirled, stared at her a moment, as if shocked, then he freed her wrist. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hold so tight, I—”
She grabbed him and shoved him against the brick wall of the club. “I am starving, Julian. Starving.” Because she’d had a truly hellish last few months. She’d been captured by a covert government group who’d lured her in with the promise of helping her, only then they’d started playing torture games. She’d been trapped with them until recently…when she’d learned that her asshole of a brother had been the one to set up that twisted group in the first place. She’d just gotten her freedom and she needed to feed. Badly.
She did not need be throat-blocked by Julian.
“You need blood?” He blinked. “You can have mine.” He tilted his head, offering his neck to her.
Only there was one big problem with drinking from Julian. He was a shifter—and shifter blood was incredibly powerful. Add that power boost to the animal attraction that she still felt for him—despite everything that had gone wrong between them—and, yes, that equaled a very big problem. Or maybe it equaled a whole lot of big problems.
He’s trouble. Bad trouble for me.
“Take my blood,” he said, still staring down at her. “Then we have to get the hell out of here because you’re not safe.”
What?
“Take it,” he gritted. He wasn’t touching her. She was the one who had her hands slammed onto his chest. “Hurry.”
She glanced around. No one else was in the alley. She didn’t see anyone in the shadows.
“Do I need to do this myself?”
She felt his muscles shift beneath her hands. She glanced back and saw that he’d lifted his left hand to his throat and his claws were out. Those claws still made her nervous. “Julian, what are you—”
He cut his throat. Not too deep, just a little slice and the blood began to drip down his throat. The smell hit her instantly and her fangs shot out to fill her mouth. She rose onto her toes and licked that little trickle of blood. And at that first taste, the surge of power hit her.
Shifter power. It was like a high, a rush from the best drug in the world. It filled every inch of her body and she just wanted to take and take.
The first time she’d had Julian’s blood, she’d been scared out of her mind. The rush had left her shaken and she’d run from him.
She’d been running ever since.
But right then, her hands were tight on him. Her high heels dug into the cement and her teeth sank into him. His hands flew up and locked around her hips and he pulled her even closer to him.
“Missed you…” His gruff whisper. Words that she must have just imagined because there was no way he would ever say that to her. He’d changed her, he’d left her, and he’d nearly destroyed her.

“I am not in the mood for a chase.” Each word was gritted and his face had turned even harder. “If I have to do it, I will tie you up and gag you and you can travel that way for the entire trip back to Key West.”
“That’s kidnapping,” she whispered.
He shrugged. “That’s collecting a paranormal bounty.”
Play this angle. Do this. “I’m…I’m not a paranormal.”
And there it was—the briefest of hesitations. His grip on her eased a little bit. Not enough for her to escape, but just enough for her to know that the guy wasn’t super comfortable with the idea of abducting a human.
Oh, sure. He’d take a paranormal…Like we don’t matter? But when he thought he might be capturing a human, it became a whole new ball game.
“You…are.” But he didn’t sound convinced.
“I’m not. I’m not a shifter or a vampire.” She opened her mouth wide, showing her normal teeth. “I’m not a witch or a siren or anything like that.” Her heart raced in her chest. “Luke is trying to turn me into something I don’t want to be. Please, please help me. Let me walk away. Tell him that you never found me.”
He—he brought his face down even closer to her. And his mouth hovered right over her neck. What was he doing? Was he—
Smelling her?
“Honey.”
Amber froze.
“You smell like honey…and champagne.”
She licked her lips. “I, um, spilled a little champagne when I opened a bottle for a customer earlier.”
He gave a low growl. Was that rough sound supposed to be some kind of question or something? Or—
He put his mouth on her neck.
“Don’t! Don’t kill me!”
But it was too late. He’d pressed his lips to the curve of her throat. He was…kissing her neck. Lightly licking the skin. And as crazy as it was…heat began to unfurl deep within her.
“You taste like honey…and champagne.”
Her breath heaved out.
His head lifted. His eyes seemed a little brighter. “And my mouth won’t kill you, sweets. It’s my hands that do that. I could put my mouth over every single inch of you, and I guarantee, you’d only know pleasure. Not death.”

“You’re being…kind.” She tip-toed toward him. Lila stopped when she was less than a foot away. Close enough to touch.
Close enough to take.
“Why are you being kind?” Lila pressed as she nibbled on her lower lip.
She should stop the nibbling. It made him want to bite. “You think just because I’m bad…I can’t be good?” His hand lifted and his knuckles brushed over the silk of her cheek. “Sweetheart, you’ve got me all wrong. I can be very, very good to you.”
Her lips parted.
Don’t do it. Don’t…
But he’d wanted a taste for so very long.
“Or I could be bad,” he rasped. “It’s all about what you want.”
Then he did it—he put his mouth on hers. Rayce kept the kiss easy at first because he expected her to wrench away from him.
But she didn’t.
Her hands rose to press to his chest and she leaned into his kiss.
What in the ever loving fuck?
Since Rayce wasn’t a fool, he didn’t pull away. He did take that kiss deeper. His hand curled around the nape of her neck as he tilted her head back. He thrust his tongue past her lips.
Lila gave a quick moan.
And he tasted his angel. He stroked and he licked and he savored her, and the woman was even better than he’d imagined—and Rayce had one very active imagination. Her tongue tentatively met his, and he growled his pleasure at the sensual contact.
Then his left hand was sliding down her body. Curling around the edge of her hip and pulling her even closer. His dick shoved against the front of his jeans. She had to feel his arousal pressing against her, but Lila didn’t retreat.
The kiss got rougher. Hotter. He wanted to run his lips and tongue over every single inch of her. He wanted—
She pushed him back. Her breath heaved out as she stared at him with wide, shocked eyes. But…
There was desire in Lila’s gaze.
“That was a kiss,” she said, voice breathy.
“That was one hell of a kiss,” he corrected her. Rayce wanted the record to be clear.
She licked her lips, as if still tasting him. Every muscle in his body clamped down. “Lila—”
“That was my first kiss.” Then she smiled at him. She’d mentioned his dimple before, but when she smiled—she had two perfect, cute dimples. One in each cheek, winking at him. “Thank you for my kiss.”
She was thanking him. He wanted to fucking eat her alive, and she was thanking him.
Then she skirted around him and headed for the bedroom.
It took a few moments for her words to fully register for him.
If that had been her first kiss…
“Lila!” Rayce bellowed her name.
She stopped, her back to him, then, slowly, she turned on her heel so that she faced him. Her hand had risen and she was touching her lips.
Breathe. Nice and slowly. Don’t sound like a maniac when you ask… “Have you had sex?”
Her cheeks went pink. Pretty, pretty pink. “Angels don’t…” Lila began, but then her words trailed away.
Angels don’t have sex. Right. They were supposed to be above those basic, primal, savage needs. “You’ve been on earth for a few months…” And she’d done a good job of hiding from him during that time. It wasn’t easy to hide from a werewolf, but she’d managed.
Did she have help?
She just watched him, her hand still close to her lips. If she hadn’t been kissed, then no, she hadn’t fucked anyone. So the jealous images he’d had in his head for so long should get the hell out of his mind—
“I’ve been running.” Her hand fell to her side. “And I haven’t…I haven’t wanted anyone. Why would I have sex with someone I don’t want?”
Do you want me? Could he make the angel desire him? The same dark and all-consuming way he desired her?
“Angels don’t have sex.” Lila turned away from him.
“But you’re not exactly an angel any longer…are you?”
She hesitated.
Shit, that had been the wrong thing to—
“No, I guess I’m not.” Lila went into the bedroom and shut the door behind her.
“I am such a fucking asshole,” Rayce muttered.
