Elven Chronicles Book Eleven

After seeing Eärwen and Eöl reunited, Larien storms off. She is sickened by the endless evil the Demons continue to practice and she swears revenge against the Hordes for what they have done to her friends. She decides it is time that she should take a page from her mother’s past and put it into practice, with a twist. Instead of waiting for the enemy to act, she will take her Dragonets to attack the Demons where they live.

Rothliel has learned his Life Mate’s name and his brother tells him that the time has come for him to claim her. Lothrariel also tells him about her plans. He is not pleased with what he hears. Nothing, however, that he says deters her when they meet, and he is drawn into her game plan.

Neither Larien nor Rothliel are prepared for what they find. The Demon Mountains hide many secrets from the world. They are not what everyone thinks they are. What has the Drazon been hiding? They are about to find out, as they travel deep into the Demons Lair.

Excerpt:
As the Demon Mountains continued to rumble and shake with the combined threat of an eruption and the attack of the Black Dragons, Rothliel, Larien and Alyssa fell, until they lost consciousness. They didn’t feel when they passed through a bubble in the passageway, causing it to pop, before it disappeared. They didn’t wake upon impact in a soft loam in the forest. They didn’t even realize that they had been moved from where they had landed. All any of them were aware of, was waking up in a strange place and, they didn’t do it together.

“It is about time one of you decided to join us,” a soft, feminine voice greeted Larien, as her eyes fluttered open, and she blinked in surprise to see another Elf leaning over her.

Larien looked into the beautiful face of a white haired Elven healer and smiled, as she raised her hand to touch the woman’s cheek with her fingertips. The lady smiled back, before speaking again.

Into the Demons Lair quote“Yes, I am as real as you are and we are happy that you are finally awake. You have been sleeping for almost a full day,” the healer spoke. “My name is Loriana.”

“I am Larien,” she replied then winced, as the healer carefully placed a soft cool hand on a bump that had been overlooked during her treatment.

“You landed hard, despite our efforts to try to ease your fall. We felt your coming and, at first, we didn’t know what to think. We have gotten used to Demons falling through the doorway, but this is the first time Elves and Dragonets have. I should wait for the others to wakeup, so we only need to have this conversation the once, instead of two or three times, but I am too impatient to know more about you.” Loriana explained.

“How are Alyssa and Rothliel?” Larien wondered, as she tried to sit up and failed.

Loriana was immediately concerned. She had hoped that when their patients began to move around, that they would be more stable than what Larien appeared to be. She was beginning to wonder if they were going to have to call in one of the stronger healers.

“We haven’t been eating much and, I would love some cold water, if you have any,” Larien spoke.

While Loriana went for the water, Larien tried to sit up on her own again, this time she succeeded. When she felt secure, she wrapped the sheet she had been covered with, around her naked body and looked to see if she could locate the others. She was alone in the room.

Loriana smiled, when she arrived with the glass of water, and spoke. “So, you are somewhat mobile, that is good news. If the others are in the same shape as you are when they wake, there are people who would like to see you.”

Larien took the glass from Loriana’s hand and drank thirstily until it was empty, then passed it back. “Thank you, where have you put Alyssa and Rothliel?”

“Your companions are in rooms of their own. We weren’t sure what kind of customs your people practice, so we thought it best to offer you privacy. I removed your clothing, as well as the other lady’s. Kassen took care of your male companion. We are really very pleased to see you. We had given up all hope that any other Elves had managed to survive the Demon scourge,” Loriana explained.

Larien continued to stare at the strange Elf. She had never seen hair so white, or eyes so blue. The contrast was striking and very becoming. She smiled awkwardly, when she noticed what she was doing, then covered her lack of manners by asking for something to eat. Loriana didn’t take offense to Larien’s perusal. In fact she seemed to be pleased that she was alert enough to be inquisitive, and that she wanted food.

“We are really at a loss for what to say or do, what to offer you or, to be honest, tell you. The Oracles keep telling us that our time here is about to come to an end, but after so many thousands of millennium, we had given up all hope that this would happen.” Loriana confessed.

“Where we come from, we live our lives day to day, for while it seems like there is a lull in the wars, we know that is an illusion. It only lasts long enough for the Demons to replenish their population, so it can continue.” Larien admitted.

Another White Elf walked through the doorway, bearing a tray filled to capacity with food and smiled at Larien, as if pleased to see that she was awake and lucid. He noticed how she had wrapped the sheet around her body and teased her, while he introduced himself.

“I am Dessior and let me tell you how lovely you look in that sheet.”

Larien blushed profusely at the tone of Dessior’s voice, as well as the heat that flared deep in his eyes. She was used to men admiring her for her looks, but this seemed to go further than that. When she thought of Rothliel in the other room, her interest in Dessior’s lure dried up.
