“Anna?”

She pressed two fingers against her temple. “I can’t.”

He moved in front of her, and caressed the side of her cheek with the pad of his thumb. “It’s all gonna be okay.”

“I want to believe you.” She dropped her head onto his chest and gripped his forearms.

He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. “Your hell will stop. I promise.”

She stretched up.

He lowered his head.

Their lips touched.

His arms wound tight around her as their lips fused together. Her mouth was divine sustenance and he was a man starving. She held his face and opened for him. His tongue dipped into her mouth, feeling her sweet textures.

The loud ring of his cell phone caused Anna to jump back.

Godric rumbled as he pulled the phone out of his pocket, intent on turning the damn thing off, but instead of Dex, it was Ozz. Shit. He couldn’t ignore the call. “I’m sorry. I have to take this.”

Anna bobbed her head. “I’ll go wait by the door.”

She scurried out of the room. Godric let out a long sigh and answered the phone. “What in the hell do you want?”

“Don’t play with that girl’s heart.” Ozz’s usual edgy tone was sharper.

Godric rubbed a hand over the spot on his neck where the device messing with his hormones was implanted. Yeah, his life was fucked-up beyond all repair, but so was Anna’s. They were perfect for each other and he didn’t give a tick’s ass what anyone else thought. They could be good for each other. He never got emotionally involved with a woman he was protecting, and he was starting to feel seriously attached to Anna. That had to mean something. “You know what? Fuck you. I like her. She smells like heaven, and both of us are FUBAR. For all you know she is my mate, and I can’t fucking smell it.”

“Are you finished?” Ozz demanded.

“Yeah. Are you calling because Dex tattled on me?”
