by Lady V and Alice Brown
My Beloved Book One

My Beloved WerewolfChanning Addams can’t believe his luck when he literally collides into his mate in the most unlikely of places. But his happiness doesn't last long when his beast demands they join with their mate, leaving Channing to use all his power to stifle the beast within to not frighten the woman meant to be their mate—their human mate.

Rochelle, with the knowledge of having the worst taste in men, finds it difficult to trust what is placed directly in her path—a man interested in every aspect of her life along with sharing his with her.

As the two are getting to know each, the unthinkable happens, and Rochelle soon learns that not all is how it seems when people start turning into monsters before her very eyes, leaving her running for her life—literally.

Channing wonders how much more the love of his life is going to take of his crazy world before she gives up on the two of them. But as time goes by, he finds his mate has an inner core of strength and resolve. One that just might come in handy as they face the evil within Channing's own family.

Can Rochelle accept the beast within the man she has fallen for or will she run, leaving him to fight his own battles?

Excerpt:
It was a Thursday evening and Channing was tired. He’d just finished the painting that he had been working on, the one that had his agent on the phone every day asking, “Where is it?” They already had a buyer for it; a guy in New York wanted it to hang in his art gallery.

Channing grinned as he headed over to Rochelle’s for the evening. He knew exactly where part of that money was going to go. He had already been looking at rings, and even though he knew it was far too soon for her human heart to handle, he wanted, no he needed to be prepared. Sooner or later, he would have no choice but to break down and explain that he was a werewolf and what all that entailed. He wasn’t looking forward to that conversation.

However, if he could make her see he was still just Channing with or without the fur, and she agreed to mate with him, she would want for nothing again. So with that in mind, he had dragged Heath through the mall and all of the local jewelry stores looking for the perfect ring. He had finally found it and it was currently being held until he received his royalty payment for his latest piece.

He arrived at Rochelle’s, hoping that she wouldn’t mind staying in tonight. He really didn’t feel like going out, but knew he would do it for her if it made her happy. His sharp hearing picked up someone sobbing from inside the house as soon as he took his helmet off, and he quickly made his way up the front steps, ready to kick the damn door down to protect his mate.

He rapped sharply on the front door and heard his mate’s voice gruffly call out, “Who is it?”

“Rochelle, its Channing. Let me in, babe, because I’m not leaving until I see for myself that you are safe.”

The door opened a crack and as soon as she verified he was alone, she flung the door open and hurled her little body against his, wrapping her arms around his neck, and burying her face in his neck.

“Oh, I’m so glad to see you. I can’t believe he did this to her, I mean, I never trusted the stupid son-of-a-bitch, but I never thought he would stoop this low.”

He bent down and hooked his arm under her knees, then carried her back inside the house. He whispered that she was okay, that he wouldn’t let anything hurt her, and then he lifted his head and took in the sight before him.

Utter disaster. A huge hole, about the size of a man’s fist, was in the middle of what used to be their television screen. Both end tables had been overturned, both lamps lay on their sides broken in several places. The magazines that had always been so carefully laid out on the coffee table were now scattered all over the floor. The worst of it, though, was when he looked at the walls. Not only had half the family’s photos been knocked down, but there was also clear evidence of blood on the wall directly in front of him.

He closed his eyes for a few seconds, shoving his beast back down. The last thing he needed was for Rochelle to notice the difference in his eyes. As he carefully put her down, he could hear her sister sobbing upstairs. Gently taking Rochelle by the hand, he headed straight for the woman who was crying and obviously hurt. He would tend to his mate and her sister first, then he was going to go kill an ex-boyfriend, because both of these young women, even if they didn’t realize it, were under his protection.

Oh, he was sure they hadn’t realized anything was different, yet, but they would soon enough. There was no way he could claim his mate without extending his protection to her family. And since their parents were away on an extended leave, for the moment, his protection extended out to Chasity.

They reached her room where she was sitting on the side of the bed with what looked like an icepack on the back of her head. A box of tissues was within arm’s reach and the wastebasket that was sitting right below her was already half filled.

He let go of his mate’s hand as she walked over and sat next to her sister, gently rubbing her back. Channing knelt down in front of her, trying like hell to remain calm even though all he wanted to do was get on his bike and go hunt down the bastard that had done this.

One side of her face was swollen and already darkening with bruises. Her head had been tilted downward, and when she looked up, Channing wasn’t sure how his presence was going to be received.

So he couldn’t have been more shocked when she threw her arms around his neck and cried on his shoulder. On one level, it made him feel good that she obviously trusted him so deeply and evidently looked up to him as a big brother. But it still rankled him that she was in this state to begin with.

He bent his head down and kissed the top of her forehead as he gently rubbed her back, his mate watching her sister and him with a mixture of emotions warring within. He could tell she was happy that Chasity was comfortable around him, but like him, she hated that her sister was hurt in the first place.

Channing let Chasity cry on his shoulder for a few minutes and waited until she had calmed down to just intermittent sobs. Gently prying her arms from around his neck, he pitched his voice soft as he stated, “Chasity, I need to know where all you are hurt. Come on now, talk to me. Tell me what happened and where you are hurt.”

As Chasity let go of him, a new wave of tears started all over again. It took Channing great strength not to roll his eyes. Turning to his mate, he asked, “Were you here when this all happened?” It was then he noticed his mate delicately rubbing her throat with one hand.

“You were here, weren’t you? Tell me what happened. What did he do to you?” His beast was roaring from within, ready to tear somebody from limb to limb for hurting their mate.

“I wasn’t here when it started, so I’m not sure what brought it all on. I walked in the door to see the living room being trashed as Sam was in full-out rage mode, screaming at Chasity and throwing anything he could find at her. Chasity was cowering in the corner, trying to protect herself from the projectiles that were aimed her way. I screamed at him to get out right that instant, but he just looked at me with an evil gleam in his eye.” She stopped there and visibly shuddered as she recalled him coming after her.

“He came at me so fast. I swear I didn’t even have time to blink and he was right in front of me. He picked me up by my throat with one hand and brought me face to face with him. He said he would be back, that we would never get rid of him. He said that he could do with us what he wanted, and that nobody was big enough or strong enough to stop him. Then he dropped me back down where I landed in a heap on the floor and watched as he literally flew out the door.” She stopped and shook her head. “I swear, I didn’t even know it was possible for someone to move that fast!”

Channing stood and squeezed in between his mate and her sister, both young ladies laying their head on his shoulder as he replayed his mate’s words back in his mind. Certain things that were said were starting to make sense and his beast roared from deep within when he came up with the same conclusion. His mate’s sister had been dating someone of the supernatural species. And from the sounds of it, Channing would bet money that Chasity had gotten herself involved with a vampire.

His beast roared that it didn’t care if Chasity had gotten involved with one vampire or ten, all would be dead that dared to touch their mate. Rochelle was marked and Channing knew the vampire would both see and smell him on her. So, in touching his mate, he had just challenged Channing. But first he had to make sure that the girls were taken care of and safe.
