Corona Pride Book One

When a one-night stand feels like so much more…

Mountain lion shifter Laura Vidal has been given two choices: leave the territory to find a mate, or become a guardian of the pride. Unwilling to leave the only home she’s ever known, Laura chooses the rigorous and bruising guardian training. Honestly, she’s glad for the training because it keeps her too busy to see Dristan, the guy who rocked her world during an amazing one-night stand.

Dristan Rhees can’t forget the girl who stole his heart after a single night of unbridled passion, despite the fact that she now won’t give him the time of day. But when vampires invade their territory, he and Laura are forced to work together. In order to defend their pride, they must confront the desire that still threatens to consume them.

Excerpt:
The broken look on his face pierced her heart. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “It’s just, there are expectations…”

“Expectations?”

Laura shifted from foot to foot. Shit. She didn’t want to have this conversation. Like, ever.

“My parents. Marlana.”

His eyes widened in surprise. “Your parents and Marlana have a place in our bedrooms?”

“No, but they do have a place in our lives, and they thought I should have been with Mateo all along. Now I’m not, and they want someone like him. They’re pushing for Rafe, or one of the Channings, or someone from another pride.”

“Now I see,” he said, giving a bitter laugh. “Expectations. My pedigree isn’t good enough for you. You know, I’d wondered, but I kept telling myself it was just in my head. Laura Vidal wasn’t like the rest of them. Laura Vidal wouldn’t hold a grudge against one of her childhood friends. Laura Vidal—”

She couldn’t listen to this. He was right, but it hurt, and it was hurting him just as much as it was hurting her. “You don’t understand,” she said. “It isn’t me who thinks like that—”

He cut her off, his face a hard mask of anger—anger so cold that it burned. “I understand perfectly. You’d rather fall into line, just like your parents and everyone else in the pride, than grow a fucking backbone.”

“There’s more to it than that,” she said.

“Yeah? Tell me about it.” He raised his eyebrows. Light reflected in those gorgeous cat’s eyes of his. He was focused on her—all of his energy, his aggression, his yearning.

She stood up on her tiptoes and kissed him for the second time that night.

This time he didn’t hesitate against her mouth. It was his lips, his tongue, parting her mouth and thrusting inside, demanding more from her. He wrapped his fist in her hair again and she shuddered, liking that pressure, liking to feel him losing control. She hiked her leg up his side, wanting to press herself against him, wanting him as close as possible. Her mountain lion purred as she arched forward, begging for more.

Dristan smelled like apples and cinnamon, like the coffee he brewed at his deli, like something uniquely male that she’d always been drawn to.

The front door of Hart’s opened, and light and people spilled out. Laura tried to step away, not wanting to be caught out here, caught like this with Dristan, but he kept his hand in her hair and held her in place. Laura bit her lip, trying not to moan. Dristan pressed against her so her back was flush against his Jeep, his eyes reflecting the light from the bar. The couple that had come out of the bar walked to a truck at the other end of the parking lot, climbed in, and drove away.

Dristan sighed against her neck, and licked her ear. She squirmed against him. He held her in place by her hair, and his other hand traveled down her body, reaching inside her open coat and under her halter top. She wasn’t wearing a bra, and when he brushed a fingertip against one of her nipples, she groaned.

“Dristan, more—” she started.

“Shh.” He kissed her again and unbuttoned her jeans, shoved his hand into her panties. She could feel her wetness slicking back and forth as he touched her, his tongue making angry thrusts into her mouth in time with his fingers against her folds. He shoved her jeans down a little farther, then found her clit and pinched it lightly. If he hadn’t been holding her up, Laura would have fallen to the ground.
