Excerpt:
Despite it being the most popular bar in town, Macy had never set foot inside Out of Bounds. The reason being the owner, Hal Parks…all six feet, two hundred pounds of raging masculinity.

She and Hal had once dated. It hadn’t turned out well between them. The only reason she was here now was she needed a job—fast. And the easiest, quickest way she could think of earning money was waitressing. She’d done it during college and had earned decent tips. Surely she hadn’t lost her knack.

Macy glanced in the rearview. She studied her reflection as she lifted one hand and straightened her blonde ponytail. Pushing her sunglasses to the top of her head, she retouched her mascara and red lipstick. Satisfied she looked her best; she climbed out of her yellow Mustang and locked the door.

She’d dressed to impress. Gone was the business suit she’d worn to work. In its place, she wore a pair of tight jeans and a low-cut white blouse. The push-up bra she wore would draw even more attention to her double Ds.

Sniffing her wrist, she was happy that the perfume she’d spritzed on before leaving home was still noticeable. It had been Hal’s favorite. He’d claimed it reminded him of wildflowers and sex, not a bad comparison actually.

Hal would be putty in her hands. It had been ten years since they’d dated, but she knew what it took to get his attention.

Macy turned her wrist to glance at her watch. It was only a few minutes after four. Out of Bounds didn’t officially open until five, but she’d learned from Julie that Hal usually arrived early to prepare for the evening crowd. She hoped to catch him alone, so she could state her case in privacy.

The wooden door to the square brick building was unlocked. She twisted the knob to open it and pushed her way inside. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the dim lighting. Once they had, she surveyed the bar.

The pine flooring and framed posters on the wall reminded her of the sports bars Hal dragged her to during their college years. Those had been happy times before he injured his knee and everything went to hell in a handbasket. Shaking off the memories, Macy strode toward the counter just as Hal came through the swinging doors at one end that apparently led to the kitchen.

He carried a case of beer over one shoulder. Massive biceps bulged at the seams of his black T-shirt as he hefted the case onto the counter. He had to have seen her, yet he proceeded to fill the coolers without saying a word.

So he was going to be difficult. She should’ve known.

With a determined toss of her head, she plopped onto a barstool and tossed her keys onto the counter. “Hey, Hal.”

He ignored her and turned to fill the back case. Lowering her eyes, her gaze slipped to his denim-encased ass. Hal’s butt was a thing of beauty, muscular and firm yet round enough to fill her hands. She crossed her legs to ease the ache between her thighs. Despite the bad blood between them, Hal was still the best lay she’d ever had.

Hal continued to act if she wasn’t even in the room. With a heavy sigh, she leaned across the counter and slapped his ass. She told herself it was just to get his attention, but lust played a major role. “I said hey.”

His back stiffened. A growl rumbled out of him, but he didn’t turn around.

“Are you seriously going to pretend I’m not here? That’s mighty childish of you.”

As suspected, she finally got a rise out of him. Hal turned around to face her. His nostrils flared as if he’d caught her scent. His shaggy brown hair practically stood on end as his blue eyes took on an amber glow. “What do you want, Macy?”

She sucked in a breath. She recognized the signs for what they were. He was close to shifting. He’d only let her see him in bear form once. She’d never forgotten the sight of the seven-foot-tall, three-hundred-pound bear. Her life had never been the same since. “Whoa, settle down, big boy. I only came by to ask you for a favor.”

Hal took a deep breath, and the tension slowly eased from his body. He’d lost weight after quitting football, but he was still a large guy in human form. Six feet tall, with muscles galore, he had the physique of a professional wrestler, only without the annoying waxed chest and body oil. Macy shivered with remembered delight of exactly how non-annoying his body really was.

Hal crossed his arms over his massive chest and lifted an eyebrow. “What is this favor?”
