Speeding along through the city, few of the streetlights still worked as random areas were blacked out. An aftereffect caused by the storm’s earlier fury. Except for periodic flashes of lightning, and illumination coming from the driver’s dashboard and radio, the interior of the cab was dark.
Covered in shadow, Dylan could take advantage of the situation if he wanted. The antisocial driver’s focus was set on getting them to their destination, which meant Dylan didn’t worry about a voyeuristic perv. If he chose to mess around with Elise in the backseat, he could do it pretty well undetected. The truth was, by not touching her, Dylan was screwing with her, letting her stew in her own juices, so to speak.
Dylan reflected upon how well Elise had responded to his earlier challenge in the sex shop, sporting a pleased grin. The controlled persona she displayed daily in the office disappeared once she started selecting items. Of all the things she chose, Big Al’s suggested vibrator didn’t make the cut. Interested or not, the man had made the mistake of trying to visibly manipulate her into purchasing it. Elise didn’t do anything she didn’t want to do. Dylan observed that firsthand while working with her. That’s why tonight needed to be her idea. But, to say he wasn’t guilty of directing her in this direction wasn’t accurate.
Dylan preferred to believe what he was doing was a subtle seduction, even though deep down, a small part of him questioned his motives. The more she allowed him in, the more he started to feel like this time things were different. He knew he should tell Elise the secret he’d kept from her all week long. But if he told her, the spell would be broken, shattered before they began. It was selfish and wrong on many levels, yet he still didn’t want to say anything. He needed her as much as she needed him. Besides, it was in his nature after all. One couldn’t go against nature, now could they?
As Dylan slipped inside himself, he utilized the noises around him to help focus. The sounds of swishing wiper blades, the whoosh of water as the vehicle plowed through flooded streets, and even the classical rock music playing on the radio. Everything combined into one constant, permitting him to zero in and use his power.
Little enhancement was required to prepare her. Elise already possessed a vivid imagination, full of many dreams. Enduring disappointment had only made them more detailed, more frequent. Dylan couldn’t remember the last time he’d been as satisfied. It’s why he was reluctant to treat what they shared as another common experience. No, Elise was special.
