Excerpt:
"Good, I don't have to come in and wake you up."

"Don't be absurd, or creepy. I do have roommates who wouldn't appreciate your perversions."

A small chuckle rolled through his lips. "You say it like it’s a bad thing. I promise I don't have any strange obsessions you need to be concerned with. Everything we do is necessary. You just might not like it much."

"You are not building a solid reason for me to continue on with this farce. Keep talking, and I will turn back around to go inside. I'll leave my fate to chance."

"Bad call, Becs. But it is yours to make. I'm heading out now, if you still want my help than follow me. I have several ideas where you can begin to gain some control over your gift."

Rebecca wanted to smack him on the head. She doubted the reason she hit him would actually register. No use bothering to do something when it would prove futile. The arrogant jerk did have a bad habit of being right. She did need his help. Hating to admit it aloud, she kept her mouth shut and forced herself to walk after him.

They walked for several minutes until they reached a secluded beach. As she inspected her surroundings, she realized they were standing next to a breathtaking lagoon. There were rocky cliffs with over hanging vegetation on the far end. Red coral creepers twisted in thick green vines across the cliffs. A coral reef skimmed around the edge, separating it into a separate body of water, a clear blue crystal sparkling beneath the bright sun. Orchids, blushing purple and pink, grew along the edge. Their perfume, a sweet and clean aroma, tickled her nose.

"Is that a coral reef? It's hard to be certain gazing across the lagoon. The water is clear enough, though. I think it is one shining from the bottom. I would love to go swimming in there and see all the underwater structures and sea creatures. I love places like this." Rebecca stared out across the water with her hand resting on her forehead, shading the sun from her eyes.

"I believe it is. I haven't had the satisfaction of checking it out myself yet. I chose this place to work because it's secluded and no one should disturb us."

Rebecca lowered her hand and glanced at Joel. His gaze seized by the beauty of the paradise before him, his eyes mirroring the color of the water. He shook his head and turned to her. The easy smile once again on his face.
