A 1Night Stand novella

Broken-hearted when her live-in boyfriend impregnates her best frenemy, Indigo Adams accepts a one-way ticket to Seoul, South Korea, and a challenge from her Great-Aunt Matilda: Forget that boy. Go and make something of yourself.

Bruised from an international public relations nightmare as the new heir to the multi-billion-dollar Han Incorporated, Hyunkyung Han seeks positive publicity in the form of a wedding. She consults with Madame Eve to find a nice, well-behaved Korean American with bilingual and bicultural skills.

Instead, Madame Eve sends Indi, a naïve philosophy major graduate working for minimum wage at the local pub. Enraged to find Indi can’t speak one word of Korean, Hyunkyung orders her sent home on the next plane to Spillville, Iowa.

Then Hyunkyung shakes Indi’s hand, and the sparks fly. With all of her professional responsibilities, how can Hyunkyung allow herself to fall for the wrong woman? How can Indi feel attraction for a woman who despises her?

A light-hearted romp through the perils and joys of navigating an intercultural romance. Certain to delight all fans of a happily ever after with a kinky twist.

Seoul Spankings Excerpt:
“Say my name,” she demanded, startling me with her fierceness. Korean For Foreigners had told me saying someone’s name was rude.

“Hee-yon,” I stammered, unable to form the alien syllables. “Huh—huh-yawn.”

She pursed her lips, circling my chair. “Indi Go,” she enunciated, in the odd, separated manner seeming to order me from her presence. “Here I am not Ee Sajahng. I am Hyunkyung Han, and you will call me by name.”

“Ee,” I faltered. Some of her employees had said something familiar. “Ee?” I grasped onto the only sound I could replicate.

“Ee Sajahng,” she repeated. “Founder. Investor. A title, not a name. Call me Hyunkyung.” This time as she walked around me, her knee brushed against mine. A tiny gymnast vaulted somewhere underneath my ribs, and I spoke without thinking.

“Can’t I say HK?” After all, her staff called me Miss Go. Why insult her by butchering the sounds I couldn’t form?

She paused behind me, delaying long enough to highlight the ludicrous nature of my request. Yo, Barack ol’ buddy. I can call you BO, right?

“Sorry,” I mumbled.

“Americans are so familiar,” she said, in an undertone.

“Koreans are so formal!” I protested.

“Yes,” she answered, tapping one manicured finger against another. “Let’s show you how formal.”

Mistress on Her Knees Excerpt:
“I didn't know she was falling in love with me!” My voice rises at her accusation.

“Bullshit.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me. You've worked as a professional for ten years, and you can't tell when a client forms an inappropriate attachment? Tell me another one.”

I should never have called Graciela, but I didn't know what to do. I spin in the wheeled office chair of my hosts' office-turned-guest-room, and I work to keep my voice down. “You didn't say anything when I brought Mira to visit you. You spanked her.”

Her censure crackles through the phone. “I beat that whining out of you on your first day as my submissive.”

She did. She made me kneel, fifteen years ago, and read a list of excuses I might be tempted to use with her. I paid for each one with a lash of the belt, and I never said them again.

I couldn't help it.

It wasn't my fault.

I didn't mean to.

I saw someone else do it.

You didn't tell me not to.

I'm trying as hard as I can.

I'm not perfect.

You expect too much.

It's too hard.

I can't do it.

On and on the list went, and halfway through I begged her to stop. I swore I would never say them. In response, she made me start again at the beginning. She cradled me afterward as I sobbed, and she promised we would start fresh. After that first day, I never allowed an excuse to cross my lips. Until now.

It's been fifteen years since Mistress Graciela took me on as her submissive and ten since I allowed her to touch me, but I still resent and respect the woman who taught me about submission, love, and betrayal.

“Fine. Everything's my fault, like always. What about Mira?”
“I didn't say that.”
“Oh, shut up, Graciela. Everything's been my fault since the day we met.” I bite my tongue too late, wishing I could take the words back. Something about her brings out the worst in me and always has.

“Yes, Trinity. You are the injured party here.”

There was a time when her withering sarcasm would have dropped me to my knees, begging forgiveness and a chance to make amends. Today, it makes me angry. “It's not about me. It's about Mira, and—”

“Yes.” She cracks her agreement like a whip. “When Hana brought Mira to you as a paid client, it was about them. When they invited you to their home as a guest, it was about them. When you played on a vulnerable girl's emotions and taught her to love you, was it about them?”

“I never—”
“Accepted an invitation to visit them in their home and abused their trust?”
Every excuse rises to my rebellious lips, but I keep silent.
“To make it worse, you regress Mira to a Little state? Do you understand--”
All at once, incongruously, I remember the first time Graciela spanked me for pleasure. I’d begged her for ages not to exclude me. “To see if you like it,” she said. I was scared out of my mind and terrified to try, but I determined to take anything her clients could.

“I won't hurt you,” she said, patting her knees and gesturing for me to lie across. “Not unless you are very, very good and ask very, very nicely. This time, I’ll show you what it's like to get an adult spanking when it’s my decision, not yours.”

I crept toward her, spitless with fear.

“Remember,” she said, “at any time you may use your safeword. But I won't do more than a little patting.”

I hesitated, and she held out her hand. “Take a risk, Trinity. What's the worst that could happen?”

She left my clothes intact, and as promised her love pats hurt less than banging my knee into the doorjamb.

“Is this all?” I asked, let down. Gone were my fears of looking like a wimp in front of the professional, awe-inspiring Mistress.

“For now,” she said, giving one token spank.
My body quivered with the need for her to continue. “Please,” I begged.
“Please what? Stop?” She luxuriated in making me say the words that burned my cheeks with embarrassment.
“Please...more...don't stop.”
“No,” she said. “You're adorable and I could spank you all day, but it's my job to set the limits.”

The one thing I never allowed Graciela to do was treat me as a Little. I couldn't bear the talk of mommy and daddy, not after the experiences with my own. Ever patient, she trained me in the basics and respected my limits.

“Has this all been a game to you?”

Graciela's evidently been haranguing me during my trip down memory lane, and I draw a deep breath. Haughty and self-righteous as she might be, she never would have allowed Mira to get hurt on her watch. Gracie worked as a professional Domme before I knew the difference between a flogger and cat o’nine tails.

She is, after all, my mentor. Was. No matter how deep the rift between us, she will make the situation better. Not for my sake, but for the sake of the little girl who got hurt by my carelessness.

“I was wrong,” I say, choking over the words. “What can I do to make things better?”

The line goes silent, and a stirring of my past self panics. Is she angry, she who used to determine the rising and setting of my sun? Have I failed the woman who rescued me and threw me out?

She will take care of Mira. For Mira's sake, not yours.

“Boundaries got crossed,” she says, and I wince. “Innocent people got hurt. To fix the situation, they will have to get hurt more.”

She used to exact heavy penalties for the smallest infractions, but the price to pay was mine. No one else’s.

“You will have to hurt them more. You need to sever your bond so Mira and Hana can write you out of their lives and move on.”

Mira, the fragile, sweet girl who seems at once like a daughter and a sister. She is me ten years ago, lost in a world that values strength over sweetness. I would rather cut off my arm than hurt her, but Gracie is right. I have lost everything in my greed, and the only way forward is to remove myself from their lives.

“I can't—”

“Did I not teach you to delete that excuse from—”

“Please,” I beg. For my sake alone, I would tell Graciela to go fly a kite. For Mira, I will humble myself. “Nurse Trinity meant something to her. If I hurt her, she loses the memory of our time together. I can't take that away from her, too.”

“You already did.” But Gracie sighs.

“I'll do everything you say.”

“I've heard that one before.”

“Gracie, please. For Mira.”

Another sigh. “Fine. But don't look at her without my permission. Do you understand? And you'll come here afterward.”

“Yes, Mistress,” I say, and it's not until we hang up that I realize my words. Fifteen years later, and the words feel as wrong as they felt right before.

Yes, Mistress.

Living in Sin Excerpt:
Audra slides her hand over my collarbone, slipping the satin pink bra strap over my shoulder. I bat her hand away and adjust my bra.

"Ouch," she says, withdrawing to her end of the couch. "I did take a shower this morning." She picks up her neon pink coffee mug and takes a sip.

"I love you." I scan my pile of papers, frantic to finish my report before the deadline. "I'm just…"

"Busy," Audra offers. She takes another sip, watching me.

"I've got to finish before Grandma's birthday party."

At the silence, I realize my mistake. "Look, I'm sorry. I know you want to go, but it'll be tapioca pudding and cake with dull conversation."

Two patches of pink appear on Audra's cheeks, and she clinks her cup onto the ceramic mosaic coaster. We chose the set together when she first moved in. "You act like you're ashamed of me."

I groan. "We've gone through this a thousand times. That's not how my family works."

"Huh." Audra stands up and carries her mug to the kitchen sink. "Thought I was part of your family." She returns to the living room and sits in the chair furthest away from me.

I pound away for five full minutes until I give in. Audra has silent treatment down to a science. I can apologize, but it won't change anything. "I need some space," I plead.

"That can be arranged." She stalks out of the room and slams our bedroom door.

Taliasman Excerpt:
If I had been born a boy, I would have followed in my father’s footsteps to become a tradesman. Because I was a girl, he sold me instead.

“No,” Vina corrects me when I bring up the story, which is not often. She doesn’t like the facts, and I dislike her pretty lies. “Your mother agonized whether to let you go, but she knew you would be better off here. She wanted to give you a better life.”

I would call Vina on her mistruths, but she claims I still reason as a child. All of my protests to the contrary serve to prove her right, at least in her mind. Only when I agree with her does she admit I am a full-grown adult.

“You’re happy with me, aren’t you?” Vina makes me sit next to her at the formal dinners she hosts most nights, and she dresses me in rich silks with real lace. If I tell her “no,” she sends me to my room as punishment for my petulance. If I resist, she gives me one of her lessons in obedience. Some are painful, some pleasurable, and all serve to narrow my world and make me focus on her. How could I not, when she owns me?

“No,” Vina corrects me when I call her my owner. “I set you free, and I gave you the life you never could have had otherwise.”

When I turned nineteen, no one wanted to marry me. My mother fussed with my “hope chest,” if it could be called that, and arranged the one cotton handkerchief as if it could attract a suitor.

“Let me stay with you,” I entreated, and I won. I always did. The house needed new walls, and I wielded the power tools.

“You’ve turned her into such a tomboy no one will want her,” Mother chided Father, and the truth stung. I could have cared for my parents into their old age, but they wanted me gone.
